Is it making heat ? If it’s burning completely what color is the ash ? I’ve had some free stuff that would throw tons of (sparks ) and periodically have yellow flame , it actually burned to a very fine red ash , but had no noticeable loss of heat , other stuff with wood , acorn hulls and leaf debris mixed in will flare yellow but only in spots not across the whole bed , pictures or video help

Yellow flame is bits of carbon burning after mixing with air and heat.
Blue flame is gas burning that is pre-mixed with air and heat.
I would suspect the coal, perhaps oil coated.

2nd time you mentioned gaskets.
1. Size correct, cleaned (any old residue?)
2. Dollar bill or Smoke test gasket seal?
Anything else "new" or "different" in setup?

Did you change coal sources? Not all anthracite is the same.. Some burn more blue some more yellow. Some even have shades of purple and violet.

Yeah, it sure could be the coal. More yellow flames and shorter burn times are usually a sign of semi-anthracite and/or some trashy bone and higher iron stuff.

Not being able to slow the burn indicates faulty ash door gasket, door latch being adjusted too loose or allowing air in along handle shaft , if you’ve dollar bill tested all gaskets , do a smoke test around latch’s and all joints where bass joins with body , is it possible one of the leg bolts is loose ? . Coal bed should die back and darken noticeably within 10-15 min of closing bottom air

That's the way Kimmels brand bagged nut coal burned in my stoves when Tractor Supply first started carrying coal. It burned hot, but not as long like the bulk that I was getting from the Mahanoy mines.
And I thought it was wet with just water to keep the dust down, but it had some kind of very light oil coating that stained a bare wooden floor where some bags leaked. Took a while for the yellow to burn to a blue flame.
Great for bringing back a near dead fire, so I kept a few bags just for that. It was like a cross between coal and wood.

I never had any issue like that my first year with coal when I burned TSC coal. I’m fact, it has more heat AND longer blue flames, whiter ash and less of it.
I was planning on buying a ton when it went on sale, but it sounds like I better buy a few bags and try it before committing to a ton.

Was two years ago.
Just seen a recent t somewhere, where someone ordered a full ton and on the bottom of the bags laying on the pallet was a sheet of paper saying it was Kimmels coal. But yeah, I was aware of the same thing you said until seeing that post somewhere.
Not sure why the paper would be there unless it was a pallet left over somewhere. Odd, for sure. Can’t recall where I seen that but was a new post and as recent as a few weeks ago.
