Moved into a home with a Franco Belge 10.1475 Coal Stove. I've never operated one of these. Hoping someone can explain how to operate it to me as a complete newbie. Couldn't find something directly on point here or on Youtube, etc. I'm posting images of the stove, plus images of the original manual. Obviously there are instructions in the manual but they seemed to be written for someone experienced with coal stoves. I would be so grateful if someone could explain it to me like I'm five.

First where is your general location? Is anthracite coal available?
You should have two tools with the stove. A flat poker with an offset end, and a tool with a hook on one end and a right angle on the other end. Cast iron.

The stove has probably seen little use because it was shipped with the wrong firebox. Those holes along the front edge should not be there, but can be easily filled with furnace cement.

A neat installation but the stove has to be moved forward to service the stove and to clean the chimney. What is the chimney?

Clean the inside of the door glass. Try a paper towel and glass cleaner.

The hopper is supported on either end by those supports with notches. Right now the lowest notches are being used. It must be raised to the highest notch. Heavy, but with a hand under either end raise up to highest notch. Lift out that thing lying in the firebox bottom.

Enough for now and awaiting your reaction.

I am in Pennsylvania and it is easy to get anthracite here. I have pea coal anthracite ready to go.

I don't have the two tools. Where could I get them?

Which holes on the front should be filled in?

I have to admit I don't really understand some of what you wrote. I wasn't exaggerating when I said how much I'd appreciate it if someone could explain this to me like I'm five years old. I don't know which supports with notches you're referring to. I don't really know which parts are what. The original instructions I uploaded unfortunately don't have a diagram. Any help you can offer is deeply appreciated. I don't know how to get this thing lighted, or how to load up the hopper, how to clean out the ash, how to adjust air flow, etc. etc. etc.

Here is a better view of the stove showing the internals.

I have a model 114.02.08 little bigger than this one you have. Take the advice of francoB on here he is very knowledgeable and helped me from questions on set up to firing it up.
I find if you get a very good drafting chimney, a good damper set up these stoves are super efficient. With the cool temps outside I've managed to get a couple 24hr burns the last few days. If it’s very cold and the stove is working hard every 8 to 10 hrs shake it and stoke it.

Parislovett,

How did your heating season go with the Franco Belge? I'm curious to know. I formerly owned one of these and it performed great for me. This was my first stove and it was easy to figure out how to operate. The thermostat on the side worked well, too. I'm actually starting up again after almost 11 years. I'm looking at another Franco Belge and hoping that if I buy it, it will serve me well again.
