I have a couple vintage Blaze Princess stoves. Would they be good to place in a cabin or not? Please advise . Also I have a Glenwood Cabinet No. 14, would this be better? I’m not savvy about this. TY

Thanks, hearth stone is called go’s hen stone, a mica schist, indigenous to Massachusetts, Vermont, Brazil. Cabin is 1000sft, 2 story. Both coal and wood, as both are readily available. I grew up outside Albany NY, Massachusetts side.

Southern Indiana, just step out of nursing last April 2020, almost 40 yrs, had enough. Husband farms FT crops, beef, sheep. Parents still in Mass, Dalton. Thank you for the advice, we will go with Princess. My father was given an old Glenwood cook stove, we packed the pieces up and plan on reassembly at home. I may need someone to advise us on the reassembly lol . It’s in phenomenal condition, no rust. When I return home again, I’ll pick it up.

Welcome, Ty,
I don't know if the princess had just wood type grates, or if it has coal grates, but that Glenwood cabinet, with its triangular grate teeth is made to burn coal and does a very good job of clearing ash.
Some pix of the princess grates will confirm what it will burn best.
There are a bunch of us here that are using early 1900 Glenwood kitchen ranges. Plus a few members that restore them professionally. Should be no problem to get advice how to put your range puzzle back together.
Meantime, take a look through the "Cookin' With Coal" thread in this section.

Thank you, my husband would love to cook again on a wood stove like they did in his boyhood summer kitchen. It may come in handy during canning season too. Thanks again gentlemen! Love this forum, but don’t see many females.
PS: I’m stout but not THAT stout at only 5 foot tall!

If your thinking of burning coal, know that there are many types of stove grates. The grates are the heart of a stove and determine what fuel and how well it will deal with ash clearing of the firebed. Wood is easy to clear ash and can be burned in pretty much any stove. But coal can be tricky to clear ash well, so it can not be burned on just any type of grate. Only some designs of grate are meant to work well with coal. Get the wrong grates and coal can be very frustrating.Countryside812 wrote: ↑Sun. With kitchen ranges, there are even fewer choices for good ash-clearing coal grates. And with antique ranges, it seems the majority of ranges were sold with wood grates. However, some of the most popular, like Glenwoods, can be converted to coal grates. Many of the stove restoration shops are recasting grate bars and grate frames.
One of the best design of grates for coal are the triangular grates (aka prism grates) in your Glenwood cabinet stove. Glenwood used them in many of their later ranges and parlor stoves.

FYI...Blaze King Princess is a wood ONLY stove. No grates from factory. Burn wood directly on the bricks.

Yes, I was planning on wood in Princess. I love the look of ALL Glenwood. I did not know that about the tri- grate. I so appreciated the wisdom I’m gleaning from everyone. I need to pass it on to my son for future generations. Keep the wisdom coming!
