I just purchased this heater from a guy who was going to scrap it. Not sure what it was designed for, but I know that it still has a use. Can someone help me identify what this was and what it was used for?

Looks like an old caboose stove--or for any small area--oh yeah, she's got a use & don't look in all that bad of shape--just some TLC & lots of PB Blaster along with a lot of good old fashioned elbow grease should loosen her up some!! :)

What would the water inlet be used for?
Is this like a stove to be used in combination with a radiator, and what would the big hole in the side with the patch be for?

I'm a Certified,Degreed and Self-Confessed Moron, but could this be a variation of a "Bucket-A-Day" and/or Chicken Coop Heater? Better Minds with Zero Alzheimers' Influentials will chime in to set Da' Record Straight!!

I'm guessing it's a coal fired water heater. It's not a laundry stove since it doesn't have a flat top to heat pots of water on.

WATER 100 LB.

This kind of tells you what it is. It even carries an H stamp.

Yes, water heater from days gone by. Used a separate tank setup to thermosiphon in a loop to heat raised tank.

Will make steam if overfired beyond capacity. I use one of these often with a small pump and a three way valve to first heat the upper heat exchanger and then the lower in a 120 gallon tank.

Always plumb in a pop-off valve...never want to test the pressure capacity as explosions of fragmented cast iron plus super heated water will flash suddenly to steam.

Got my B.A.D. with it’s matched tank...not used here, but it has riveted top and bottom for cylinder and rivets on seam the entire length,...must be pretty old!!

Reading Foundry and Supply Co. Looks like a bucket a day water heater.
