I'm asking this question for a freind of mine he has had the Harmon stove for approximently 20 years regular maintence has been done .. But the last several years he has been unable to keep the coal stove burning sometime gets several hours or a day or so out of it and it goes out . I have used his coal and have no trouble burning it any body burning the older Harmon stove or have any general idea I could help him start with. Thanks ....

Ash bound is the most likely suspect. Check the shaker linkage for excess play.

Also check the glass and gasketing around the glass. Believe it or not my brother had the same problem due to bad studs on the door. Easy fix was to drill them out and replace with bolts instead. His stove has been running all winter long since the fix.
