Posted in another catagory, not sure what my stove is. Good evening all. I hope someone can give me some peace. My husband is out of town and I'm operating the stove, Hitzer Model 503 E-Z Flo Fireplace Insert. I was shaking the ash down and the grate and hot coals fell into pan. I'm worried about a fire. Any suggestions? Thank you!!

I don't have your stove, but let's get a few more details from you. For opener's,how is your stove acting right now? Have you kept both doors closed during all this? Are you noticing the glow and flame going out? Do you have a little magnetic thermometer on that insert that tells you what temp you're running at? When's the "Old Man" due back?

I don't think there is fire danger. The burning coal will ash up and cool.

Some 503 users will give you advice on repair.

Sounds like the grate support failed...
If the grate is in the ash pan you will need a new support...
The other possibility is the ledge that the grate support sits on has rotted but that is a very slight chance...
Do you have another heat source...
No fire danger just make sure the ash and glass door are shut...
Grate holder is about $60...
Check the 2 grates for straightness if warped $120 for the pair...
Check the bricks, regular size can be bought locally the two skinny ones are worth buying at $6 for the pair...

Call Hitzer very nice people to deal with...
260-589-8536...
Once it cools down you will need to clear out the stove of ash and coal...
Post some pics of the inside of the stove, the grates and the grate support...
The we can go from there...

Thank you all for responding!!! We made it through the night, lol. Hubby will be home tonight. Going to let the fire die and get it figured out. Thankfully we have backup heat in the meantime. You all are the best!!

When you get it cleaned out let us know what part failed...
Was this a newer or older model...
I have two so interested in what gave out...
Pics would be nice...
