One thing I'll say in regard to the video is about the fly ash. If I'm not careful, during maintenance, fly ash will release from the fire pot or the ash tray, become airborne and settle on horizontal surfaces throughout the house, even upstairs. So in addition to opening up the pipe vent, when I floss. I keep both doors closed and I slide the poker through the ash door vent slots. (ala Larry's video) I also use a coal hod rather than a tub for keeping the fuel handy indoors. And I fill the hod outside or in the basement. These steps keep the house cleaner and the Mrs. from complaining about all the coal dust.

When shaking, hold a heavy glove against the bottom door air slots. That stops some ash too.

Hello all. New to this forum. I’m getting ready to purchase my second Chubby stove. I sold my first one because it didn’t seem like it would heat my 1400 sqft old granite rock house. No exterior insulation in walls. Had it going through my fireplace chimney. After looking around at many other coal stoves, I realized they won’t fit my small hearth like the Chubby did. Didn’t want to build out hearth because my living room is small and dint have the space to do it. I decided I might be better off with another chubby, but with a blower on the back. I didn’t have a barometric damper the first time but will put one in now. Larry suggested I crack the window towards the back of the house. It will help draft and pull the heat towards the back of the house. I wish I never got rid of the first one. Got it for a steal. $1000.00 shipped from eBay. Like new. My question is with the damper. Field controls says if my chimney is taller than 16ft, I should use a 7 inch damper, not a 6 inch? Also, would having a 135 cfm blower fan on the back affect the draft? Dumb question, but I want to make sure this thing is going to work this winter. Thanks so much.

I'd like a hopper and prismatic Glenwood style grates. That would be nice.
As far as loading you can lift the top cover and dump coal down. I'm very particular and use the shovel method to make the coal pile nice and even and bank it perfectly.

Thanks and will do. Yeah, I overthink things and Larry has been great at answering all my questions. He's building me a brand new one and I feel honored that I'll be owning a piece of his work.
