I finally got time to make an ash pan and get this baby fired up I’m probably asking a lot out of her for the area I’m heating but there’s also a learning curve with burning coal so if you could see in the picture is how high can I stuff coal?
Also I have the bottom draft all the way to the right it won’t turn anymore and it’s still burning what you see which I think is pretty hot even though the furnace is averaging 200° but going out my flu is in the 300s I dialed it back using the flue . I’m at three-quarter Flue I closed it a little bit tonight and I’m down in the 150s I just bumped it back up well the question is does anybody have anything to add on how hot I could run this safely

Looks good, next time you add some coal go a little higher in the firebox. Coal likes a deep bed. How long of a burn time are you getting on your fire?

Thanks for the reply I had about 7 inches of coal. It’s 7 1/2 to the bottom of the door. And then 4 1/2 inches from the top of the coal to the bottom of the fule inside the fire chamber.

I've read in here somewhere about a minimum of 8" for nut sized coal for optimal burn.

Where are you taking the temp on the stove?

Ok i’ll try to make the coal bed deeper. I’m using a laser temperature gage I’m checking my outlet temperature going into a triple insulated pipe. I’m also taking a temperature at the firebox door. Pretty much the whole unit I’m checking temperature. Thanks for the info you guys

I’m getting some heat out of her tonight into the room lots of air leaks in the lower Air intake is a little bit loose so I am wondering if I need door gaskets it doesn’t look like I can put anything in the door I could only put a small maybe quarter inch or less onto the firebox itself?

If the door frame fits fairly tight on the stove I would not bother. Tighten the pipe damper a little and see how it goes.

I had that damper all the way closed and I’m still running Hot. I’m trying to stop all the air leaks to get her dialed in

Where in NE Pa are you located?
Post a picture with the ash door open so we can see the hinges and face of the stove that it closes on.

When you say you are running hot .... what is the temperature of the load door. Then take a temperature reading a foot above the manual pipe damper.
