Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer 50/93

Post by HJKnicks533 » Mon. Dec. 28, 2020 8:04 pm

I recently moved into a new home with a Hitzer 59/93 and all has been good but today I added coal into the hopper this afternoon and now the house is really hot. The stove is running 100 deg F hotter than normal. I didn’t fill the hopper all the way up but I am thinking it might be firing the coal up in the hopper. The coal fire even looks hotter than it has been. I have the ash door vent closed and i think the temp vent in the back has been closed most of the day because it has been in the high 30’s today. It just appears I have more coal fired up than normal. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Always completely fill hopper--AND--check for even crumbs under the hopper door.

Vent door might be a bit loose if the vent knob jiggles at all...
It will pop up the temps like that easy...
Tighten the bolt...
Loose door gasket dollar bill test...
Check rear bi metallic door for a full closure no bits in the way to prevent a full close...
Chain loose on bi metallic if not it is letting air go by...
Buts under top loading door lets air in...
