Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer 30-95
Coal Size/Type: Anthracite/nut

I apologize if this is an old question. I am in the process of installing a used 30-95 into the basement of my new home. I have a masonry chimney. If you own this stove what size coal do you prefer to burn? I would like to buy a ton of coal since it is cheaper than just buying individual bags. I probably won't get around to firing up the stove for a few more months but I would like to have some on hand. This stove will mainly be used for supplemental heat or for when the power goes out. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. The tried and true coal size for your stove is nut coal. Best of luck with your Hitzer they are great stoves.

My local ACE store wants $300 a ton for bagged nut coal. I am located in central NY. How does that compare elsewhere?

Same in the southern New England area this time of year. Best deals are in the Spring/early summer.

About the same as Berne, Indiana...home of Hitzer stoves. They carry Blashak and Lehigh in various sizes. I gave $275 ton for it in August.

Also similar to TSC nut here in Ohio. Currently $6.49 a bag, but hopefully will go on sale again for $5 bag soon.

The op. His bio says central Ny. The closest Ace to me is about 15 miles. I didn't even know they carried coal. 2 or 3 coal dealers in area and all are cheaper than $300 a ton.

Sorry, didn't realize there were more questions on this thread. I am located in Fulton, about 30 miles north of Syracuse. Not all ACE sells coal but the one in Oswego does. I could have gotten it for a little cheaper but they wanted a 3 ton minimum to deliver. ACE charged me $5 to deliver it 10 miles, dropped it off at my front door. I am new to coal so I only wanted to get a ton to make sure it is something I am going to like. Next year if I find I like it I will shop around. Thanks.
