Self feeder?Spacecadet wrote: ↑Sat. Apr. 25, 2020 4:19 pmI just picked up a 1557m hot blast. I’m reading through the posts and wonder if once you shut it down if you could get some more pics of what you did. I’m going to be doing some major overhaul to this brand new stove. I’m hoping to make it more user friendly. I plan to call Hitzer for some new parts including a bi metallic and self feeder.
Hot Blast 1500 has me concerned

Yes. A custom removable hopper and a feeder door for a 30-95.

No and yes. Lol. It’s brand new. Bought it from someone that bought it and never installed it from fb marketplace. Came with a cold air filter box assembly.

Just got it today. I have to order the steel and the door. I already have the bi metallic- I had bought all air control parts a few weeks ago for another stove. This will be a project that will be completed in the next few weeks. I’m going to use this 1557m to replace the 50-93 I have on the garage. I’m hopping this hot blast will out preform the Hitzer in my poorly insulated garage.

She looks purty! Can you take pics and measurements as you go? I’ll hopefully have some spare time in August and I might copy what you did if you don’t mind. I’ve been trying to figure a way for 2 years how to do a hopper with feed

I didn’t even bother using the shaker grates. I bought the grill grate and a $8 harbor freight handsaw to slice. The 1357 is much shorter though. The saw was perfect size.

Gravity feed hopper retofitted on a HotBlast to be able to burn more coal than a 50-95...sounds like a good science project.

My suggestion would be to go down thru the top with the hopper and have the warm air supply come off top sides...
Or, better yet have the hopper lid use the top front half and mount a plenum behind it on the top back half..

Yes Fred ... hoping and doing are definitely two different things lol. I have the rest of this forever winter lol then summer to get it done. I’ll call Hitzer this week and get a new door.
Lighting- I’m going to go through the top. I have a few crude drawings. Of dimensions for the hopper. I have to talk to the steel shop and see if it’s cost effective to have them bend the steel or just cut it into pieces. Or just get a half of sheet and cut it myself. Rather spend a couple bucks to and have them bend it. It would
Leak neater and ‘stock’. Lol.
The bigger issue will be hooking up the bi metallic. The bottom of the unit appears that a complete air intake would have to be constructed as their is no ‘easy’ spot to put the feed air tube and flapper.

Be mindful of hopper "throat" size... wouldn't want your coal to 'bridge' and starve the fire.
