McGiever...One spinner for primary air in the ash door and a flapper for secondary air in the feed door that is controlled with a bi-metal thermostat.

That one is more for wood and bit burning. You can use it for secondary air to burn volatiles but after that you can close it and just use the primary (ash door spinner) to control heat output.

I put firebrick in front of my liners. Just so they won’t burn out
How did you put firebrick in front of you liners? Do you have a HOTBLAST 1557?

I have it’s little brother, The 1357. I measured very accurately the angle and dimensions then cut a new plate out of 1/4 steel. I welded a piece of angle just above the gap at the bottom. I then cut three pieces of firebrick to fit. I also welded nuts to the top of the plate and put a gasket in between the plate and stove. I draw the plate up tight against the gasket to seal it off.

I don’t think I took a pic but I can. It might be a little difficult to make out as I have been burning bit for the last 5 days and it’s a little sooted up. I’ll get some though.

Ok see what you can do. Don’t get burnt or put out your fire just for that. Just take a pic when you get a chance. I’m going to try it cause I’m tired of my liners burning up.
Thanks Man!

Time for a reload. So it’s difficult to see, but I have a 5/16” socket head cap screw running through a collar that is welded to the lip of the stove. The screw then threads into a nut that is welded to the back of the liner. There is a flat gasket sandwiched in between the stove front and the liner. The screws draw the liner up tight against the stove squashing the gasket sealing off that gap. On the other side of the liner is a piece of angle welded at the bottom and the firebrick just sits inside of it. They are coped to match the angle of the firebrick they meet on the sides of the firebox. I cut a 3/8 gap in the bottom of the plate so I can run the handsaw across the top of the flat grate to clear the ash. I’ll try to get some internal pics when I shut it down next.

I should also add that the gaps in between the firebrick are completely filled with ash so no air is getting through there from the bottom.

Just a flat rope gasket from Rural King. I think it was 1/8”. Thicker would have been better.

ok I’ll be in touch over the spring and summer for sure since this is when I’ll be doing it.
This is my 3rd liner I’ve been through since I got the stove.
I am going to shut down Sunday and clean out real good and swap this liner for another one I have.

Do you really need a gasket since
You have brick there? Our sides have brick with no gasket. IDK

The sides are usually buried in coal and ash. The top is where the air was escaping on mine. That’s why I went with a gasket.

I just picked up a 1557m hot blast. I’m reading through the posts and wonder if once you shut it down if you could get some more pics of what you did. I’m going to be doing some major overhaul to this brand new stove. I’m hoping to make it more user friendly. I plan to call Hitzer for some new parts including a bi metallic and self feeder.
