- Hand Fed Coal Stove: Keystoker HFH 90
Howdy all! I have used wood stoves for many years over my lifetime, but this year converted to Anthracite. I ordered, and had installed, a Keystoker HFH 90 after doing much research. I have read the "Coalpail" for a couple of years trying to learn about coal vs. wood. I was terrified of trying coal, as it seemed to have much mystique to it. Nah!!! This Keystoker is great! So easy to use and to tend..... I should have done it years ago!

Hey smoky, welcome to the forum. That is one REAL nice looking setup!!! Especially like the bear in the door. Did you make that yourself? Also; do you know the size of the firebox on that unit? Couldn't find firebox size on Keystoker's website.

Coalder,
The Bear is an option available at Keystoker. I was hesitant to get it, but the SO said if I didn't get it now, I never would..... She was correct... I don't know the firebox size, but the hopper holds about 50 - 70 lbs of nut. So far, I haven't filled it to the top. But needless to say, I only have to tend it once a day....... I could probably go over two days....... Maybe I'll try that out. Thanks for the comments, as I've saved a couple years to get this stove..... So far, I love it!

That stove has a flip up top doesn't it? Looks like it...because it's thin. I bet the cook surface is thick.
Love the design. How much does it weight?

Hoytman,
The Keystoker site says it weighs 370 Lbs. It can come with either a glass or steel top. The SO didn't like the idea of a glass top, but I think I might have preferred it as it would be a little lighter to lift, and I don't imagine placing anything on top of it. I'll try to attach a couple more pictures.

The grates seem pretty heavy and you shouldn't have too much trouble cooking on top of that stove. Very nice!

I ran a German Buderus for 25 years, hopper fed and all cast iron, with baked enamel on the outside. I struggled with American coal in the European burner. Shaking it down was difficult as the grate was a shaker unlike your rocker. I was not aware of this forum, and was convinced a American made stoker was the way to go. Your HFH and other stoves on this forum have me wondering if I made the best decision. I think you made a good choice, and I am sure it is much quiter than my stoker. I am now heating better than ever before as you to have done as well. Glad to see you are successful and happy.

One of the dealers had one that had a two tone brown enamel finish with a deer scene in the window. I wanted it bad. I had just gotten all the money saved so I could buy it. I Called with plans to get it but it was sold the day before. They are some really nice looking stoves, you got a great stove and the bear will be a conversion starter every time you have company.
