Picked up this Hitzer 50-93 for $50. I'm going to be putting it in my garage, AKA old barn. I'll see how it does, the barn is completely uninsulated, except for above, behind, and next to the stove. Putting the chimney in Sunday, and I'll finish the drywall and insulation within the next few weeks. Stove came with the optional blower. I know I'll have a learning curve. But I burned coal in my old riteway boiler at my old house for a few years, and I figured that out. Planning to use a barometric draft inducer. I'm planning to pick up a Dwyer manometer. I'm using double wall stove pipe to connect to the chimney. Any recommendations on how to connect the Dwyer twthe double wall? Any help or advice is appreciated

U, no need for baro with this stove unless you (like lightening) just like gadgets) Rob R's brother put a 50-93 in a uninsulated (big ass shop) & I mean BIG ASS!!!!!!!!!! it worked real well till he did insulation then he was able to tune the stove down some. If you figured out the riteway---you'll love the simplicity of the 50-93--make sure all gaskets are good, Especially hopper flap door--flat gasket-- grates work smoothly & you're good to go--as for mano--I have not a clue--again--GADGETS!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Love pix of inside of stove---nice find by the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Nice 50-93, especially for $50!!

Check out my little thread where these guys walk me through the process:

Lighting and Maintaining a coal fire

the 50-93 is very similar to my Alaska Kodiak. I think you'll get a lot from my mistakes.

I have my Alaska in an uninsulated concrete garage and well.... Just read the thread. If I did it again i would install a manometer too, just to keep an eye on things. I do plan on putting one in still.

Best of luck and keep posting pictures.
Like Fred said, cheep insurance is gaskets, grates and brick. I replaced all of mine prior to starting and I'm finding out that the recommended 3/8" gasket on the hopper door isn't exactly making the seal and I need to bump it up to 1/2". That's for this weekend though.

Thanks, I did read some of your post the other day. Still a few weeks away from firing mine up. I got the chimney up yesterday. Now I have to finish studding the walls out, insulate, and drywall. And I need to measure for 1 more piece of stove pipe. I need a few new fore bricks, and a manometer and I'll be set to heat. Oh and I suppose a couple bags of coal would help

Why would you use double wall pipe from the stove? I would run single-wall pipe up as far as you can.

If you plan on running that Hitzer hard, plan on running the blower. It will help move the heat around and pull more heat out of the stove.

Clearance issue to the wall. The double wall pipe only requires 6 inch clearance to walls and I only have 6 inches. Following NFPA code, and trying to be as careful as possible with this old barn

Ok, that makes sense. In your pictures the chimney looks a lot farther away from the wall than 6".

THANK YOU! Cant wait to get it done. I'm going to finish studding my walls tomorrow. The rest of my parts should be coming in the mail next week. Ordered new firebrick because 75% got broken on the way home. 1 section of stove pipe coming, a dwyer manometer. I picked up some more 2x6's and insulation today after work. Next week ill get the drywall and 1 more bag of insulation. I'm using the rockwool fireproof insulation and 5/8 fire rated drywall. I'm also going to use a piece of cement board spaces 1" off the drywall to keep the heat off the old barn wood. the barometric damper I have now will not fit inside my pipe, so i'm looking for one which will fit. Last thing I need to buy is Coal! Planning to keep the stove burning from December until spring!

It rained here Sunday so I figured I should check the chimney for any leaking. Of course I missed 2 tiny pin holes around the chimney and had a bit of water there. And must have missed a spot on the flashing cuz the roof was a bit wet there. Oh well back on the roof this weekend

You'll get it done. Getting all the cumbersome stuff done correctly the first time will make life easy for the years to come. You'll be real happy and warm once you get it fired up.
I'm hoping to get my 50-93 hooked up in my garage this weekend. But I doubt that will happen as I have other stuff to do first. Plus before I fire it up I want to put new glass, seals and give it a fresh coat of paint.

I know the feeling. Never enough time! I tried to make sure ae did the whole install right, researched everything, it was getting dark out as we finished and I suspect I just forgot to put sealant somewhere. Just have to get back up there again
