I sort of have some ideas on how to go from burning on two grates to burning on one grate, but I thought I'd ask for some input since there seems to be some that have tried this.

Any suggestions for how to do this?
I imagine I just unhook the linkage from one grate.

Which grate to burn from?

I'll probably have to cover a grate with bricks. Suggestions?

You got it H. Burn on the front grate. Just angle some regular fire bricks on the rear--slanted!!

Sounds easy enough. I bought extra bricks while I was up there.

Like the 30-95.... The 30-95 has a steel plate on an angle. The firebox angles to one grate. Fire brick on the coal burning side of the plate. Same physical size stove as the 254 (two grates).

Like turning the 254 into a 30-95. Only you'd be turning the 354 into a 40-95....... Kind of
