Flame color products

I see products like Magic Flames that are supposed to make pretty colored flames in wood fires. They don't say they can be used in coal stoves. I am happy with the bright coals, quietly and peaceably behaving themselves, but I might consider the entertainment for company. Has anybody tried these? I think they have toxic fumes, but so is carbon monoxide and sulfurous coal--a handful of crystals would surely be consumed into the flue. If all the product does is color the existing wood flames, they would not get excited over a bed of anthracite coal.
