I think I found a great deal on a Chubby or two. Going to pick up two Chubbys and over a half ton of coal for $250.00. I figured the coal is worth almost that she said there are about 25 50 pound bags. The two Chubbys don't look bad in the pics so Monday going to check them out and purchase them.
So does everyone think this is a good deal?

Freetown Fred I know had to add a little humor. And another funny thing is I could have one of them sold. One has a blower and that is the one I will keep. The deal was just toooooooo good to pass up.
The other thing the wife made me do it, she wanted to know what I was waiting for

well I brought them home. will need new door gaskets and two shaker handles.....so thinking not too bad of a deal, the coal would have hoped it was nut but oh no it is pea so will mix it with the nut.

Many users here that have the blower models swear by them over the ones w/o blowers. You did really, really good. Larry, the owner of Chubby, is always just a phone call away if you have any problems or need parts. You can always ask here too.

I actually ordered some parts from Larry. Then before heating season going to order the fireview door for the one I will be using here. yes have heard GREAT things about Larry

Have the chubby running had to get some bigger door gaskets to get it to seal better thinking the hinges are wearing out, the gasket solved the problem. I am having great results burning pea coal in it, as that is what I got with the stoves. Have tried some Lehigh nut in it also and that runs hot. Will try to get pics of it set up.

Yeah the door gaskets are petty beefy. I think I bought the kit from Larry when I redid mine. There's one (slightly narrower in diameter) around the top casting as well as I recall. Makes sense to keep the stove tight.

I loaded mine up last night around 10 PM with mostly some old, seasoned maple... then shut her down like I would burning coal. This morning the place was warm and there were enough embers to get her going again.

Overnight temps here were in the high thirties and I just insulated the attic so it wasn't too much of a stretch really.

You should be able to idle it down with nut. You might still have a leaky bottom door gasket (could be hinges too as you mentioned). If not, put a piece of aluminum tape over one of the bottom door air slots. I did that with my JR and can control the fire a lot better. I have a wild draft that even with a baro the draft can get high. But regardless, I just open the slot left a little more. I can run it 200 degrees all day now.
