Even with temps hittin upper 70's--nights still chilly--33* this AM--old HITZER idles along. Probably lookin at mid June for shut down. Who the hell would chose to live in an area like this??? LOL

My rhododendrons are out in full bloom and look very nice. I just wish they could be enjoyed for more than 2-3 weeks out of the year... when they aren’t in flower I think they are the ugliest looking shrub on earth.

April was warm & wet around here. Most days felt like May while early May was more like early to mid April. Supposed to hit mid 80's tomorrow so I wasn't disappointed to find a cold coal stove this morning. I would have let it go out several days ago but one side just kept slowly burning even though it was 70* outside & the air was just cracked open.

Trying to make 2 more days, calling for 49* mornings then after that it goes, i'll be ok. Struggling with todays low/61> high 82 to keep it burning.

Another cool and rainy forecast...
Glad I let it simmer...
The 503 sits at 175* ashed up with just a crack of air...
Give it a good shake down at 9pm...
Keeps it going for another 24 hours...
Looks to be May 30 for a possible shutdown...

This is nothing compared to what the folks in the mid west are dealing with. I can't imagine when things will dry out and get back to normal. Seems all we hear about the mid west is tornadoes and that's a devastating local thing. The bigger picture is the water on the fields that won't dry in time for any short season crop. Can't imagine the hit.
I about ran out of coal before I shut down. I had a small pile of old UAE nut that's been on and under a torn up tarp since 3 years after they shut. I had to sift the dirt out of it and got about a dozen buckets. I forgot how darn hot that stuff burned! Drove me out of the house even on simmer with widowstats working. Trouble is the widow stats don't work well when its in the 80s outside with the sun beating down

The D.S. is holding 120-130 degrees.
Eating a little nut,pea,and fines a day.
Burnt 320# so far this month.
Got 4 windows and a door open. Still holding 75-80 IAT.
Next week is calling low 40's high 60's.
Not going to burn out just yet.
I hope summer is soon over.

I let the Hitzer go out last week. The house is staying comfortable with nothing but the sun hitting the windows for heat when it's out. Cloudy & cool all day but it's 73* in here right now. I guess all that new insulation is paying off.

it went sometime Friday while at work. Suppose its clean it out time. besides..... i am moving in about a month, need to haul this stove to residence! Will be renting a small house. Owner says all good for coal stove. But his insurance company wants chimney installed by a professional. Class A double wall chimney installation is easy. I will do it have a another "professional" inspect it.

I don't need much heat but yet again last evening a monsoon rain shower from hell soaked the land. It's a swamp back there. Took my beat up David Brown 1210 and a 6' Bushhog (genuine) and tried to stop mother nature from taking over with limited success. The Warwick drive in now hosts truck swampfests (or something). God it's tough. Another crappy hay season is upon us.
