Base heater has been shut down for a couple of weeks now, but in a typical year, we need the kitchen range going into June just to keep our cold night chill out of the house. And since coal is cheaper than using the pro-pain cook stove and clothes dryer, keeping the coal range going makes it that much better.

Then it's finally shut it down for three months of Summer and start it up again when the cold nights come back in early September.

Yes it getting close to 70* highs during days, but night still drops down into mid to high 40*. So, still burning hitzer... running about 150>200* body temp. Really this is a GREAT radiant coal stove!

Chubby Jr has been chubbing along on coal for a couple weeks now. Im usually just using wood for a quick fire by early May but this seems to be a winter that keeps on giving. Weather looks a little better next week.

Our asparagus is just starting to peak through the ground. Might have to mow the lawn this weekend.

The 50-93 burns on. Got it idling at 150-175* with the bi-metal t-stat fully closed & the front vent open about 1/4".

From the perspective of home heating, this appears to draw to an end here on Saturday May 18th. My T-Stats will be shut off sometime on Friday the 17th.

Home heating generally spans from about mid October to mid May here. ~7 months. ~212 days. ~9,000 Lbs. of anthracite (which includes DHW).

I am still running here and was very thankful during this cool, damp spell. There is rain in the forecast every day. It is downright chilly here this morning, I did not want to leave the house.

I will probably run the Summer again for domestic water use and boiler posterity and shut down in August for service.
