I left the cast iron doors natural black polish and didn't shine the brass too much I'll see if it works or clashes. I don't think ill like it with last year's metallic black blower wings, but ill just change it back next year. Did anyone grab that Hitzer 983 in Pittsburgh? If you have any questions about this install, I'm not an expert but ill try and help. I run mine with a manual damper on a Ace 7 inch oval x 6 inch round adapter for 14 dollars, and pulled way out on the hearth. I am not in any way making that a suggestion for you.

Just make your own out of a piece of 1/4” steel plate. Cut a rectangular piece slightly larger than the opening. I always burn mine with it open anyways. I guess you Could close it once you get your coal burning good and have a good draft going.

Do you keep the plate closed all the time? I tried leaving mine in place however I wasn’t able to get a good draft to get the fire going. I just leave it open. I may experiment closing it down once I get a good fire going. This past summer I ran a new stainless 6” hard pipe up my chimney flu and installed a DraftMaster chimney cap. Seem to have a good draft now.
