Stack 125 surface and stove top 450 with 10 or 12 hours between tending with a Crane 404. Windyhill you said it could be done I guess it is just a matter of practice! Weather outside 50's in the day 30's at night.

I've had the Harman down to a low idle a few times lately, air vent 1/2 turn open. When I need heat I run it 3/4 to one turn open. Amazing how that small difference in the underfire air affects the burn. I probably could go below 1/2 a turn but I'm afraid I will loose the draft! I lit the stove the week before Thanksgiving and have managed to stay in the One Match Club all winter long.
It's not over yet, I figure another couple of weeks left.

I wish the Hitzer insert had a finer air control the slid is so touchy it's easy to go to far either way not enough for the desired heat or to much and to much heat.
I only used two matches this year, the original start before Thanksgiving and then I let it go out to change the grates once.
I'll be letting it go out in the next couple of days, about 20 pounds to dump in tonight then a day and a half or almost two and it'll be out. I'm thinking for the season, may change my mind but we will see.

tighten the nut so it is just snug...
Leave it that way...
Then just give it a small nudge...
To slide it either way...

are you pulling the draft adjuster out...
If it is pushed all the way in you have unrestricted draft...
If puled out it reduces draft...
If you have an older unit there is a puck you can put in the outlet...

It's been a while...
Since I used the rent's 503...
You are correct...
My 503 predates the adjustable damper...
Just a puck to block full draft...
And near impossible to put in with a fire going...

I'm getting better and better with this idea on the Hitzer 50-93. Been running 225* stove top temps, 150* internal stack temps and tending every 24 hours. Working like a champ! I don't know if i dare close it up any more. It was a little hot in the house last night when it was in the high 50's yesterday night.

Hi Dennis, One thing about the 50-93 (and most other hand fired stoves), it can be shut down as low as you want. If too low, the fire goes out (Of course, this is assuming the chimney has draw). Not like a stoker stove, where positive fire box pressure is possible.DENNIS BAUER wrote: ↑Mon. Apr. 08, 2019 10:58 amI'm getting better and better with this idea on the Hitzer 50-93. The "too low and the fire goes out part" is what i'm trying not to do. I've had the stove running since mid October! I'm good with where it runs and I have big draft with him chimney.oliver power wrote: ↑Tue.
