So I’m sure there’s a thread on this but I’ve looked though and can’t find one. So I know people are going to ask why or say I don’t need it but I’m looking to put a stove in my house. A little background this is my 3rd year with an EFM (look up converting to EFM from OWB). I heat just shy of 6000 sqft that’s house, garage, and the 14’x30’ building that the boiler is in which only get what radiates off boiler. The room that is getting the stove is my original house gutted and refinished to be one big room which is 20’x36’ with 12’ cathedral ceiling. I don’t know exact weight but I think I was in the area of 12-14 ton last winter and just ran out of my 23 ton load I bought before last winter and find that this room is hard to keep warm even with ceiling fans hence the choice to put in a stove. My local dealer has a new Hitzer 30-95 that he is using to heat his office with and is selling at a discount this spring. Hitzer is my choice of stove anyway so I’m looking for advice, ideas, and pictures of what any of you guys have done for heat protection on you walls and floors around your stoves. I’m not looking for anything crazy extravagant but something nice for a living area. Thanks in advance this is an awesome forum here and I like all the help I’ve received and seen others get.

CJ, I moved this topic to the Hand Fired stove section since it looks like your asking for help deciding on a hand fired topic.

Over the sub floor a laid down 5/8 Wonderboard and tiled over that. Behind the stove I used 5/8" sheet rock over a 2x4 stud wall insulated with rock wool. Then laid a cored brick wall using masonry ties to set the wall about 2 1/2" from the sheet rock. I trimmed around both sides and the top of the wall with pine. The top of the thimble is set 24" from the ceiling.

I found galvanized corregated metal available from Home Depot was both economical and effective... I placed a piece of concrete board spaced 1.5in off the wall then the corregated metal over that... Running as hard as I can run them the metal is so reflective that its rarely ever more than luke warm...

These are nice. The corrugated metal is a smart idea simple yet effective. I was thinking about tile and brick then the wife said she would like to do stacked stone to match the fireplace in the main part of the house. Thanks for the pictures hopefully more keep coming, like to see what you guys have done
