I bought my coal supply from a new dealer, anthracite nut, and the ash is orange color. Not the white ash I have been used to. It burns just about the same, but I have noticed the ash is somewhat heavier. I believe it is the iron content.
I have had more than a few clinkers, which is ok but If I don't get them out, it cuts down on the output and length of the fire. Just wondering, is the orange ash more corrosive for the grates and ash pan? I have noticed an orange residue on the side and back fire bricks, which I recently used some steel wool to reduce the build up.
The cost was just about the same, but next year I believe I will ask for the white ash coal from my delivery guy. What is the most popular coal ash color? Also, just wondering, besides Chubby which hand fired wood coal stoves are the best for the buck without being too $$?
