My feeling is that the wind didn't do that. It would take a huge amount of positive pressure in your chimney to push it open which would have also pushed coal exhaust into the house.. But at any rate, I would put a brick up against it to hold it shut.

My guess is you had a puff-back in the stove. Put a cinder block against the cleanout door.

Wind, puff back, critter nosing around or ???? either way it got opened good on you for getting the feeling & checking things out.

You obviously have a real good familiarity with your systems heat output & draft numbers and the way the house temperature feels to know what is "normal" and what needs investigating.

I like the brick idea to keep it closed.

Park the truck tire against it to hold it closed. Problem solved! LOL.

Glad you caught it

Excellent advice, I have a brick or 2 laying around here somewhere. It was 4 degrees outside 25 mph winds 45 mph gust so I was already on high alert. Glad I caught it and was able to wake up to a 74 degree house!
