i was wondering how expensive and hard it is to change out the glass on my gibraltar mcc ? considering gibraltar is no more i feel im stuck to a custom cut from a local glass guy??

the glass is pretty much clean in this picture, may be a little fly ash but it doesnt seem to ever get clear no matter what i do, kind of like little pits in it on the inside i guess is the best way to explain it, im guessing this is normal over time? i wouldnt be surprised if its the original glass...

Its normal for the glass to look kind of like a spiderweb or nicked up. Its from the heat. Coal stoves take a special glass. Wood stove glass wont work, wont take the heat. If you want to replace it you may have to order it. If the stove maker is still around perhaps you could order from them.

you may find what you need here: https://www.stove-parts-unlimited.com/brands/Gibr ... tml?mode=1

Ceramic is needed for the "glass" I believe.

ADDED - Disregard - looks like the glass they have available is for wood stoves but they also have a "neo-ceramic" listed to 1300 degrees

I've had the same glass in the Vigilant for ~ 19 seasons. Cleans up with good with orange/pumice hand cleaner, some water and one of those green scotch pads or white scrub sponges. During the season I'll hit it with 4ot steel wool. There is an area right at the bottom of the glass where there's no gasket and secondary air enters and some pits and crazing too. Still looks clear enough.

I haven't tried it on stove glass, but white vinegar and paper works very well on mica windows. It's non-abrasive so it doesn't make scratches that eventually fog the glass and help soot stick.

I did try on my ceramic window and it was a lot of work for the little results I got for the effort. Maybe for soot but it didn't do much for the baked on fly ash. The orange'-pumice cleaner did it quickly but I wouldn't think about using it on mica, at least not with any pressure like I use on the ceramic window.

I made a rookie mistake when we first got our coal stove and used Windex to clean the "glass" - pretty much destroyed it. Was fortunate enough to easily replace it and have been using this for that last 3 years and have had zero problems and the "glass" looks as good as the first day. It is very easy to apply and remove and seems to make each cleaning easier.
