I believe this is my 4th (perhaps 5th ?) year with my Hitzer 50-93.

IMO it was never sealed properly from the factory.

I just fired up the stove Monday and prior to striking the match I replaced all the seals including the one around the glass. The original one around the glass had about 6" missing from the bottom edge of the glass. The other seals were full perimeter.

Got my stove heat about 400 to 450 with the vent running about 175. This is a lower vent temp than I had in the past and I have shaken down the stove 4 times so far and am just now feeling the need to empty the ash pan. Previous years I emptied it at least once a day sometimes twice.

OK so obviously I know that the stove was getting too much air and burning more coal than it had to. My point for posting is to warn new Hitzer owners that they might want to check their seals prior to firing up their new stove and those in my position (fairly new to this) may want to check their seals too.

Sad that a company with the reputation Hitzer has let a stove get out the door with out proper sealing. Had this been my second stove I might have realized something wasn't quite right from the start. Oh well, better late than never.

That lower piece missing on the glass maybe for an air wash to keep it clean?

hmmmm, maybe. one thing though is that when I went to buy the seals I did not know the length of the glass seal, the other 3 I did know. Anyway the guy had to look it up in a book and the book speced. 4.5' which was just a couple inches over what it took to do the whole perimeter of the glass...?

My Harmon tripple pane gaskets only go around the top and sides of all 3 glass pieces( no gasket on bottom of all gas panes)by design for air washing and secondary air burning.
