It has been a couple years I have had health issues and finally feel tough enough to run the Crane 404 again. I have a ton of Blaschak and not afraid to burn it right now. Will clean it out tomorrow chimney is clean enough to see metal not rusted and rings when I tap the whole stack pipe. so sounds good to me. Have 2 bags of Kimmels kindling coal LOL and plenty of wood. Next week nothing will be over 30 something so seems like the right time to start up. I really want to thank all those that encouraged me to hang in there it has encouraged me to keep up the PT and get stronger. You are all friends I have never met in person but still friends. Wish me luck!
Dave

I have a ton of my version of black gold and a short red head that loves to be warm and toasty visiting this weekend. Even at 66 just maybe her clothes will fall off LOL.. 66 me not her.. smile..

I was going to have the chimney cleaned just for the sake of it but looking into draft regulator there is solid looking steel. The whole stack pipe rings when tapped so can't imagine the stainless chimney could be any different. Around here that is 100+ bucks to have them spend 15 minutes or in other terms a third of a ton of coal.

What do you all think? Or am I being careless? There has been about 4 or 5 tons burned in it's lifetime and 1 cord of wood ages ago with a wood stove that was way too much work.

If it is an outside wall install...
Remove the plug in the tee and take a look...
Oh we like pics...
Redheads are not too bad either... ;)

Inside install. I think for peace of mind will have the chimney brushed and checked if for nothing else if there ever was a problem I can document the cleaning and inspection for insurance co. fire marshall etc. $100 could save tens of thousands in a bad situation is my thought even if not convenient. My ash pan out side was rusted out and quite expected so no big deal steel and full of wet ashes.

Had the cleaning done all 10 minutes of it. Nothing in the pipe metal a tiny bit discolored but very sound. I did a couple hour burn with kiln dried wood hot and fast before I shut it down a couple years ago so I am guessing that cooked whatever ash or acid was on the pipe out. But good to know it is safe to run with no second guessing involved.

Got it going and works too good. In the 30's and 23 this morning. Temps are correct 400 stove top primary air just cracked open MPD closed 0.03 draft and stack probe at 350 so around 150 to 175 surface. Will let it go out tomorrow and wait for colder weather as zero primary will just shut it off anyway.

Made it through the warm weather and headed for best of low 40's and 20's at might with no stop. Set a personal record with the 404 of 15 hours no tending running 350 stove top and 175 on the probe in center of stack. All I can say is wow that makes ash so fine it is like powder. Will open from 1/8 open to 1/4 tonight on primary air to get ready for 30 tomorrow early am. Burning around 20 to 25 lbs a day right now. I am guessing with 60 lbs indoors none needed until late tomorrow night or Wednesday AM. WindyHill said this could be done and I could not do it a couple years ago. Old age must bring luck for me..
