I was hoping to make it till November, but as many others are experiencing I will probably be going from AC today/tomorrow to boiler fire Thursday night... Should be fun getting it lit with the rain forecast. I might just put it off till Friday evening.

We've only had a few small wood fires so far. Lots of wood scraps from the house project to burn up before I break out the coal.

Looks like this weekend in NC/NE ohio... I have some kindling I need to burn in the new to me parlor stove base heater to cure paint so I'll have windows open for sure.... looks 50s day and high 30s night so I'll light up cook stove for sure Sunday...

This weekend for me, need to replace door gaskets first.
Highs in the 50s lows in the 30s for at least the next couple of weeks.

These old bones of mine are really looking forward to it.

Mt T-Stats went on at about 5:00 AM this morning. Already been receiving heat calls from them. Heating season starts here for me. I'm estimating that I have about 10,700 lbs. of coal in stock, spread across the bin, buckets, and the boilers just filled hopper.

I think this weekend is a good time for me. Looks like average temperatures of about 40 degrees for the next ten days.

FRANK is lit for the next 6 days we will go back up to 60's after that and it will be out again for the door glass change.

will have to get up at 5am for a tending then get ready and leave for meet and greet wish more could be there but we'll have a good time and send ya pics.

We have our fire lit with the fine assistance of my daughter. Here she is posing while coal is tumbling off her shovel lol. I started with a layer of Royal Oak hardwood lump charcoal and soaked it real good with lighter fluid. I also used a small brown paper bag pulled partly down thru the grates to act as a wick right at the front of the stove. Then before lighting we added about 5 shovels of stove size and half a bag of nut size. I had Daisy light the wick, she was entertained lol. "Is it gonna work Dad?" "Oh yeah, give it few minutes"
And this is the first layer taking off, with flash on and with flash off. The second layer is on now, got about 75 pounds in the stove currently. As I'm finishing this post the second layer has some pretty blues on top.

gotta love this way of lightin up, i just use matchlight and pile on the nut and presto, no better way to fast fast sure heat.

You know it Steve pushing 132.6 degrees thru the warm air supply right now. I just closed the ash door a few minutes ago, the grates just a glowin! Here's a peek thru the primary air control.

Good team work, Lee. Never hurts to teach a kid how to do more than just use a wall thermostat.

Haha! Yeah she does she's funny, "Dad what you doin? You on yer coal Facebook again?" "Yeah, here check this out...." So I continued with showing her this here thread.

"Hey Mom, Dad's coal Facebook is pretty sophisticated. He's got lots of fans on there"
