I always wanted to sit with the coal kids! Actually, i didn't think that way,
but hello everyone! I wanted to formally post some pics of my current stove project and thank everyone for the information, its literally lifesaving. I live a little closer to Pittsburgh than is ideal for coal, but we have plenty of traditional family establishments still here that sell the good stuff. I found a Blaschak dealer with good selection, delivery prices, and atmosphere. Only problem is that they can only "dump" a delivery of nut? Apparently it jams their auger system and they don't have chutes or conveyor systems, so im trying to find a solution because its extremely inconvenient to go to the driveway for a load. I will store a barrel or some type of mini, pre-stage load of a few hundred lbs that can sit on the patio a few feet from the insert and can be accessed in your underwear, in freezing negative temps for the 3rd week in a row, half awake at 3am. Oh wait, sorry, no that's my super efficient pellet stove insert with hopper!! But seriously, i don't want my bin in my driveway, but i could also make it mobile now that im remembering one of you using your "carry all" implement on a 3 point hitch , hey thanks again! Anyways, a summary of my story is i bought my first home at 38 after returning home from leaving PA at 18 to go crawl in mud, dig ditches, and occasionally shoot awesome guns and fire crazy weapons, all while wearing funny colored clothing. Spent a few semesters at 2 different universities, then tried a few jobs with those pieces of paper they gave me, and it wasn't working out. So, im a cliche of the guy that wanted to go adventure, seek knowledge, and come home to build a cabin and be left alone . Well, during the house hunt, the first "cabin" ended up an actual beautiful log cabin with 2 huge stone heatilators on a mountain next to Lake Raystown. Well, that fell through but the seed of coal was planted after i learned of the amount of work it would have taken to heat 3 storys of 3,000 sq feet in Pa mountains with the 70s heatilators, its laughable how efficient i thought they were at first. But i fell in love with the Hitzer 503 and began researching all of it. Ended up with a Magnafire Elite insert as mentioned a few hundred times last February for a whopping $125. Had "new" but filthy blowers and was old and severely neglected. Overfiring warped the baffle severely and i wasn't told this until i made the hour trip, so with your shared knowledge in my head, i saw that the welds broke first and the stove didn't warp at all so i talked him down to $125. Had 2 minor exterior hot air jacket welds crack on the front, top of the stove, but no stove cracks or firebox exposure . I didn't find until much later, disassembling to clean brass, that the door was cracked at the bottom of each window pillar. Still holding together and ok, but im still not going to overlook it because it will interfere with potential wood burns and idling coal down with draft knob. Ill shut up now about me and hopefully post some pics of what you actually want to see and not read, the stove. Yeah, i got that Insert out of my avalanche and on to that table exactly how i shouldn't have!! This is my first post and pic post, so if i posted too many or broke rules, please let me know or delete it. Im going to stick with "before" pics for this post and add some of the finished pieces later. Shroud is done and insert is at the welders .

Score!! Custom made wood and coal burner for a guys fur shed, apparently it was too much stove, but it actually has a manufacturers tag, so im confused . it won't ever be in a residential setting unless a long term emergency so im not concerned. I was thinking about making it heat a hot tub?

wow indeed. is it actually round or more oblong ?

Yes, thank you. its very deep and has a monstrous grate that is the absolute max that can fit through the door. Its a good teacher and nice to experiment with drafts. However, ive been a little distracted from this beast because my Harman is FINALLY finished!! The welder did an amazing job on the baffle and some unexpected discoveries. I painted it and finished the door window brass and said it was time. I got it in by myself after pulling the Kozi, i figured if i couldn't get a Kozi with a half full hopper out then i have no business even thinking about the Harman. It was going on 7pm and my girl (boxer) was getting concerned about this new thing not getting her warm yet. Blah blah, anyways here she is, such a wonderful heat.

Sorry Steve, yes its perfectly round minus a flat spot on the top. Its an old air compressor tank from John Wood industries in PA, dated 1956 or something. Its really amazing, i have a little themed idea i want to turn it into but im not there yet.
