Good evening all,
I picked up a used Harman Mark II tonight. It needs a good cleaning and new firebrick. Does anyone know where I can get new firebrick?
Can't wait to see how the stove runs this winter!

I believe that they are 'standard' fire brick splits...
been awhile since i replaced mine...
Pull them out and get a measurement....

The back and side firebricks are a standard size. I've gotten replacement bricks for mine from Lowes and tractor supply. As CC said just measure them up so you know what size to get.

Freetown Fred,
The stove is about 2x more btu output than the Surdiac Gotha 513 I've been running for past 3 years. Can't wait to learn how this stove runs and see heat output compared to Surdiac.

The main part of my house is 30x26 and is fairly open with a cathedral ceiling over the living rm & dining room with Mark II in the living room. I can keep that area up to 70-75deg until the OAT drops to about 10 without using the fan on it. Below that temp I usually run the fan.The stove is about 2x more btu output than the Surdiac Gotha 513 I've been running for past 3 years. I also burn wood in it during the shoulder seasons and it does "ok" for a good coal burning stove.

I am not a big wood burner. I grew up burning wood and I honestly don't have the time to even pick up some to burn in shoulder months. I'll be burning coal exclusively. I hope I can idle the stove down low during mild fall/spring temps. The stove will be used during heating season until temps drop below 10°, then it will be supplemented with a Koker K-lite furnace in basement. Hope to have house a toasty 75°+ for wife and 3 children under 2. I've read and heard the Harman Mark II is a good little stove, and I am looking forward to the learning experience of a handfed stove with shaker grates. You can say I'm excited for winter!

The only oddity is the low front lip...
Firebrick on its side...
Just have to learn to mound the front properly...
The front center air tends to make the coal in front burn quicker...
Where there is the least amount of coal...

If you have a good chimney draft wise and good gaskets on the stove the Harman can idle pretty low. I've had mine running when its been 50+degrees outside with a-.02WC draft and never had any problems. Harman recommends -.06WC for optimal performance. Of course when it gets 50+ then the window stats come into play.I hope I can idle the stove down low during mild fall/spring temps.

I think you will like the way the MK2 runs, easy to tend and more heat output than you current stove.
A Harman MK2. saved my be-hind from freezing a few years back. I had rented a small house on a historic farm. The main house was built in 1790, my little 2 room house was built next to it in 1816.
It was stone construction, 2 story, no basement, no insulation. The only source of heat was a wood stove and the propane cook stove, no central heat. I found a MK2 for cheap, painted it up and installed it. The landlord was very surprised when he came over to check on me one freezing, windy Saturday morning in January. I was wearing shorts, a T shirt and flip flops. Apparently, all the previous tenants struggled heating the place with the wood stove!

I showed my wife the pictures, she can't wait to see the blue ladies! The Surdiac had a nice view but nothing like the pictures above. I do have a few questions. I spent some time today and got all the old broken firebrick and grates/internals of stove out. What did you paint the exterior of stove with and when I install new brick do I need to use refractory cement to install them??
