With the top ornate part off ( summer), you can clean it with Brasso, wipe with enamel reducer, or solvent based wax and grease remover ( not soapy stuff) , then spray with a engine high heat clear.
The draft knob seems tough to stay nice due to a lot of being rough between the 'fins" .

Thank you! Now I have to figure out what’s the gap required for full draw from the air control knob. It seems since it’s been made dollar bill test air tight around the doors. The draw from the 1-1/4” gap I set it at isn’t enough to get the fire to 600 to spark off the coal. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.Formulabruce wrote: ↑Sun. Jan. 10, 2021 8:01 pmLooks great!! I just bought a kit on Amazon for car polishing and detailing. I sanded the rough cast with a 600 grit sanding block till it smoothed out and shined and sealed with brasso. How I got the door shiny was fill a 5 gal bucket semi full and dunk the whole thing in it for 4 hours in ammonia. That ever so lightly took a tiny layer off it and then I neutralized and polished with Brasso.Formulabruce wrote: ↑Mon. I use some matchlight charcoal. Fire in seconds, and coal fire in 5 minutes !

Good morning all,
Hope all are staying healthy and warm this winter.
I am getting ready for a cold front coming in this weekend in Central NY. Highs in the teens during day and lows below zero at night. Time to open the Harman up. Last night I ran the following settings:
Draft set by MPD at -.04
Air set at 1 and 1/4 turn open
After 12 hour burn stove temps were 420-450°F. House is a toasty 76°F with OAT of 16°F with a real feel of 4°F.
Below are some pictures of the firebox before shakedown, after shakedown and after refill.
Enjoy!

Sweet! You can get more coal in that firebox, bank it up higher on the baffle.
