So we made it through our first coal stove season.. we had our ups and downs, but by and the large the house was warm and the electric bill was low. I'm looking forward to next season with our chubby, and am trying to do it better than we had this year. How does everyone store their coal? Our stove is situated right in between the kitchen and living room. Last year we used a large plastic tub that was formerly used for summer toys. I'd like something a bit more pleasing to the eye.. unfortunately you can't search Amazon for coal storage and find anything..thanks!

I have a nice copper tub .It is oval got it on line .It is a repro .Google copper tubs .Note its about 24 inches by 14 inches wide .it holds approx. 100 pounds of coal .jackI believe it costs 80 bucks .Wife likes it .

You can also use antique chest, or toy chest if you want it to have an indoor furniture look. Or load the coal into plastic buckets and store those in a chest or cabinet and take them out when you need to refuel. . The 2 gallon white plastic paint buckets from Lowes hold about 16 lbs. of nut coal.

I use #16 & #17 sized antique coal buckets or coal scuttles - the type commonly seen near coal stoves in old pictures. They hold about 35 lbs. of nut coal and look period correct sitting beside my antique stoves. The modern versions of those type buckets, sold as "ash buckets", hold about 30 pounds.

Not old,.... it's aged and still working well.....kinda like it's owner. Just don't kick it.

I suggest getting a nice coal shuttle and not storing any more coal than that in the living area. If you are scooping out of a tub or chest in the house, it will only create dust.

My wife had purchased two coal scuttles, but we only use them to "show" off the nut and stove sized coal. Our every day use buckets are Lowe's blue 5 gallon buckets. I have 20 of them since after filling them all, I am good for at least a week of burning.
