I don’t know if anyone has seen these. One of the Stoltzfus boys from DS has these out. We installed one and it’s nice. https://www.hecostoves.com/

Nice looking range. Interesting that for that model, down below it says "Wood only" on the left side and "Wood and Coal" on the right side. :o

Have you been using coal in yours, and if so, what has been your experience with it ?

My daughter and I were looking into these new ranges (but not this model) a few years ago when she was designing her house to be built. There are several companies selling these new ranges and most are expensive compared to a restored antique coal range.

The main problem with most of them is that they are designed and built by wood stove people for burning wood, which they do very well. But, using coal is an afterthought and often not understood by the designers. Those that offer coal grates are not a grate design that makes as easy for clearing coal ash as stoves designed specifically for coal.

Sadly, what many of these new stove makers seem to miss is that It's easier to make a coal range burn wood than it is to make a wood stove burn coal.

Only the 520 is for wood only. The 420 which we installed burns wood or coal. We installed this for an Amish Mennonite family that built a new house. They burned only coal and they not only cooked with it but it was their only source of heat. Amos Stoltzfus, the son of the man who owns DS Machines owns this company. The burn box is fashioned after the Anthramax with a solid build and heavy grates and a nice ashpan. I need to stop buy and get some close up pictures. I think this unit is going to sell good at $3100.00.

'Coalway', a store local to me, is selling these. I've been giving some thought to the 420 model for our basement.

The model 420 and the model 520 can both burn coal. The model 2000 is for wood only.

Wow, 90K BTU from a cookstove. Thats some serious heat. 825 pounds.... Something like that would sell better if it came with attachable wheels, or wheels that sit under the legs for moving it around, which would be better than a cart. Many buyers would run away from the weight of it unless theres an easy way to move it. Nice looking stove.

I wonder how that 90K BTU is being rated. That's more than the oil fired boiler I use to heat a 2500 sq ft shop. :o

My range with it's 25 lbs. sized firebox is only about 15K BTU. Does that mean that range would have to hold about 150 lbs. of coal ?

The stoves were tested by Guardian. They would have the information. As for the weight, quarter inch steel weighs more than one eighth

The 520 is a monster. Most will probably be able to get by with the 420. Both appear to share the exact same oven.

going on the firebox measurements and reducing height to 6" because the upper 2/3 is above the load door threshold, i get just over 1 c.f. or 50 #'s.

maybe there is "a spot" that you could read enough heat off to project 90k btuh

i for one would like to see alot more pics, the coal ones are interesting.
