I have a post in the Craig List Finds section, with a link to the ad.

Odd stove for sale, Allentown, PA. CL

Maybe it's not as odd as I thought it was. Seller seems to not know what it is. It seems like it has a 30's style to it. Mostly cast iron. Possibly a bronze mount for the feed door? Some sort of flue control on the top? No connection or interest to buy on my part, but it would be interesting to know what it is. I didn't want to post a CL link directly in this forum.
Thanks, hank2

I'ld have nightmares knowing something as hideous as that looks, being parked in my house. But I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

i think it's cool ( who's surprised, right ) cleaned up and painted i could use it as is.

kind of reminds me of Sponge Bob's TV.

it's a coalie for sure, can't say i'm sure that the base under it is original but, i think it probably did have a circulator cabinet to start with.

judging from the size of that fire pot i'd say PLENTY of heat potential

It looks like it would comfortably heat Grand Central Station...in the middle of January.

Those grates don't look like they are for coal. Could be, but I'm not seeing it.

Link to the stove.

K, I'm thinkin the base has the sheet metal on it--like you, I like it. If I had the $$$ I'd seriously think about getting her. :) Old rockers CS, I believe. Back when common sense was runnin rampant. :)

it's got hot blast style fire pot walls, i think the grates may be a variant of duplex.

i think they are not in the upright position in the pic but in the position that holds the fire above them when the ashes are cut out from under it ?

I think that you guys are right about it being a cabinet stove originally. It sure has some nice ribbing on it, though. I agree that the grates don't look very coal-ish, but may work well enough. It's funky looking enough for me to like! Sort of a drop dead Queen Victoria look. :P

I pity the fool that has-ta move that thing. If it were me, I think I would "drop dead". :o
I guess in an industrial or commercial application it has it's place. Stuck in a dark corner, in a basement, furthest from the door, and any living creatures. :?

If you put a dress on that stove and put it in a bar, at midnight it would have several offers ;) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
