My Surdiac 713 has strips of glass 7/8"x7 1/8", can it be replaced with one piece or can I just replace one strip?

You should be able to. My old Buderus had strips of glass. I would put a couple of strips of tape over them all, and then remove the retaining strips. You may have problems finding glass or ceramic thin enough though.

I didn't even think of the thickness but the glass company was able to provide one. I'm back up and running, thanks!!
