Do you guys recommend i use both the barometric damper and a manual damper on my Gibraltar LCC?

I'm getting ready to fire it up and I'm having information overload..
Thanks

Personally J, I would go with just a MPD & see how the stove performs.

Mine's about 2 1/2 ft. up from stove top--easy for me to reach when needed. J, the only stupid questions are the ones we don't ask!! :)

J,

If you go with a baro, remember to cover it every time you refuel the stove. And then uncover it once the fresh fuel is burning well.

If you don't it will take longer to get a fresh batch going because the open baro is preventing a stronger draft that can get the fuel burning sooner.

The MPD is more effective if it's not near any bends in the pipe. It should be at least a pipe diameter away from all bends/elbows.

I will add to your information overload by saying use only a barometric damper. If it is wide open all the time, indicating a very strong-drafting chimney, then you could add an MPD to reduce overall draft, while the baro does the fine tuning. If you have both dampers, the MPD must be closer to the stove than the baro.

Does that stove have an automatic thermostat on it? If not, you definitely want the baro.

You know that's not so Lee. If the baro is needed so be it. If not, all the better. Just one less gadget ya got basically no control over.

I do know that is so, Fred. I even learned it from personal experience. No control over what? The baro does the controlling automatically, that's what it's there for.

Absolutely correct.

We do have a member who likes his automatically controlled primary air gadget on his Hitzer... BUT, he doesn't want anyone else to enjoy some form of automated draft control on their stove.... oh no.... it's a worthless gadget then... :out:

For the record, I was tending coal furnaces, Base Burners, home made coal stoves & kitchen coal/wood stoves while a lot of you were in diapers. None of these had baros--I will repeat as I have many times--if there is a need for a baro so be it, if not even better, they will tend to build up ash/crud/rust of whatever type, there has been posts of them just going bad. It's not personal with me, it's from experience. I see from pix, J has used a baro. This was his choice & it should work well--better then a MPD?--we'll never know will we? Yes, I love my bi-metallic thermo. with a MPD for serious wind here on the hill. That was suggested by Dean or Paul at HITZER considering my location. J, have you put your lcc in the search bar (top right corner) lots of info there.
