Didn't expect to FIRE ANYONE up. Need some vents for sure above stove into 1st floor living room. so stove performance is what I want to zero in on. Got the blower issue understood. Now OP has me asking..... When I run my temp just thru back knob I obviously get the up and down glow. If I work the ash door vent for temp I get a pretty steady glow so are you saying it'll burn coal to full potential. Since I haven't run a full 24 yet by using ash vents, I don't know coal use. But I attached pick of ash from a 36hr burn at 400 no blower, back knob only air control, and I have no barrometer. Does it look like I'm getting full burn. To clarify without blower at 400 stove temp I burn 50lbs in 24 hr. No complaint just looking to dial in. Fred when I was deciding on which stove to get read a lot of posts yours put me in direction of the Hitzer so gotta give ya some thanks.

The ash in pan looks good. If the ash pan vents were open some, the stove would have less lag time between when the back flapper opens, and coal bed peaks (Peak Performance). This gives you a steadier, consistent heat output. In other words, the fire will respond quicker when the back flapper opens. May also give you a little more powdery ash. Hard to say, as the ash looks good now. This time of year, try running ash pan vents at 3/4 moon, to full moon. You may find running at 1/2 moon fits the bill.

Fred I thought the pun appropriate to the breaking winds useless response his seemed to surpass sarcasm.. too new to know who is who or mess with em 😂 all good. OP I don't know my draft and have Mano but didn't hook up really don't want to install Baro so putting it off. One of reasons I got 50-93 from forum seemed like I could do without see pick not much room on pipe. Have 20' outside chimney pipe.if I crack that ash vent even quarter moon I jump to 450 stove temp, 350 pipe temp. Pick is running the 400 stove 250 pipe temp all great with 30 Deg outside. Ash looks good (nice). House at 71 (nice again) basement hot (need them vents). Anyway next cold day or night I'll mess with ash vent or just install manometer to know for sure. Right now seems vents gonna just FIRE THINGS UP!!!

My point exactly. Crack them ash pan vents, and idle fire livens up. Now you may be able to turn back dial down some. Sounds like you're on the right track. I never ran my HITZER's with barometric damper. when that back flapper door opens, you want quick strong draw. Fire will be boosted, and flapper door will close again. Fire will coast on ash pan vents. Kind of how it's designed. GREAT stove!!!

If ash pan vents are open MORE than 5/8, you will be running on the ash pan vents only. The back dial won't mean much. And, you will be up in the range of warping the hopper. You want control of your 50-93. You don't want it to run away on you.

I found with both my HITZERs; if you ask them to produce, they will to no end. They will push themselves to the point of self destructing.

I run my stove at the same temps. 400-450 on the side and 250 on the pipe. ash door vents are full moon MPD 7/8" closed, -.05 draft. Blower on full tilt. Stove is in my basement in my ranch house. Combined sq ft heated is 2500. This keeps the house 71 when its 15-20 and 69 or higher at all outside temps (-10 coldest so far). The above requires about 75-80 pounds FOR THE DAY. Not at one time. Burning Blashak Nut.

Thanks that where I have it going now have some floor vents comming to put right above stove so as to minimize blower. Bought rheostat doesn't seem to slow fans much on lowest setting. Now with 15deg outside need fan at night to keep 70 upstairs day not running blower. Same as you on coal with blower eats hopper in 10 HR. Without blower eats a lot less. Thanks for info.... If I can move all that heat with stove at 400 to 450 only gonna burn a little over 40lb. Ash vents set gets me more fine ash and less buildup keeping heat steady... All good advice saves a bunch of trial and or just never even getting best out of stove....

W, that 40's not carved in stone--on these 0 & - days I'm pushin 50 or 60 through mine. BUT, you'll notice the savings with the floor vents. :) Good post B.

Move the heat without stove blower is what I meant then coal should be at 50, what I'm hoping for. Gotta set up for some coal early next year the 300ton makes me gotta pay attention. Looks like a trailer trip to PA before fall.
