That particular stove is a Keystoker HFH 70-90 hopper fed unit. I have recently been researching it myself online as a candidate if we ever decide to build a new home. And the unit is rated 90K with full grate operation or 70 K by disabling the rear grate. Guess Keystoker is making a real versatile unit. Not much different than a firebox reducer for hand fed boilers; only a little more sophisticated. Anyway a very attractive unit indeed.

I studied one up close, and I was impressed with its build quality, as well as its overall looks.

I can see it being a little more versatile that way. Could have it in 70 mode and not shake as much and back the heat down just a little more. i could see doing that burning wood too, if a person desired to do that for some crazy reason, to let ash build to get longer burns. That was thinking a little outside the box on keystokers part, or maybe it was an old stove design redone.

My lesson today was on this stove as I always thought it was 2 different models.

I wouldnt waste much time getting to see it since its close by.

Well checked out the used stove. Obviously had been over fired as the paint turned white on the outside. Not taking a chance. So back to new I go

Too bad as that was a real good price.

Impatient people shouldn't burn coal.

Yeah. Well I'm really hoping this model will do what I need. What size coal should I use, pea or nut?

Nut would be the best choice.

Is there any use for the ash produced?

It makes a wonderful anti-skid for ice or mud.
It is a great soil amendment when used in moderation.
Works great to fill in low spots or holes in the ground.

Well I have run into an issue. Work may send me out of town once a week keeping me away for 48hrs. I've heard the hitzers making it 36hrs without tending from a friend who has it. Not throwing much heat. Not sure if HFH is gonna be ideal. Unless I let it go out and restart. Will I lose much heat through cold chimney and wall thimble while the oil boiler kicks in? Making the boiler use more than if the wall chimney wasn't there?
