I messed up big time! I'm super sick, and let the fire die down to nothing.. I got her going again today but fell asleep while working her back to life. I had thebottom door open to allow great air flow and when I woke up.. 30 minutes later, my thermometer is pegged out. I shut the door and air flow and left the flue open... is there anything else I can do to help bring the temp down??

Nada. Chubbies are tanks. Just hope your grate is not warped but that's an easy fix. I'm willing to bet all will be fine. Everyone knows not to leave the bottom door open but we've all done it. Cheers.

That should work, shutting off the bottom air. In a situation where the stove is red or there is a fire hazard, putting sand or ashes on the fire will put the fire out. Avoid using water.

Also putting more coal in will bring down the fire temp believe it or not.

I ALWAYS use the countdown timer on my phone when the fire is being restored. I’m easily distracted, and this keeps me in touch with the stove until in cruise control. I set it to ten minutes, and repeat as often as needed until cruising. Highly recommend it!
