My point is--why cut anything when there are alternatives. I've also found this FORUM to focus on simplistic, functional procedures to get the most out of what stove you're dealing with & personally I think Oliver Powers method (= cheap hot water) far outweighs what you are suggesting. What if C wants to sell the 50-93 to someone specifically looking for a hand fired that has no interest in DHW? Don't take all this personal, it's about the stove, not you or me.

If it was me, I would do the domestic hot water with a bucket a day boiler. DS still makes them and with a 100 gallon tank I think it would work good.

Bucket A Day water heater/boiler is Sweet...but to keep the OP's Hitzer he'd need another flue, just saying.

Shouldn't the hot water tank be mounted above the inlet/outlet piping of the stoves hot water heat exchanger tubes?

When I had all my daughters (3) & 2 boys # me--my elec. bill (elec. HW heater & lights + elec. pasture fence was real minimal. I'm thinkin around $25.00 a month. $300.00 a year. Less then a dollar per day. Ya never want to have a bunch of women complain about a lack of hot water!!

It'll still work with the tank on the floor. You just gotta have the inlet to the tank above the coil. The higher the inlet is, the better it will work.

No personal stance taken.

You just take a couple discs of steel and bolt them together over each hole. I would think that a stove ready to accept a coil, or one installed would actually be a good selling point.

Considering your toilet paper rationing policy, you probably limited them to a 3 minute shower.

But if you'd given them 4 sheets of Angel Soft, the showers may have only been 4 minutes! ;) I bet there was nothing but cold water left for the men in the house! I had to wait til my sisters were gone to get a hot shower when I was growing up.

I like the idea of a coil on the outside of the stove for hot water. I can see myself doing that at some point. Lots of info in this post of what to do and not to do.

Box in the coil with Styrofoam board insulation to hold in the heat for more effective heat transfer across the coil.

We worked it out W. Girls AM showers, guys evening. I was always last & YES, sometimes it was pretty sketchy!!! LOL I know for a fact from young neighbor couples, in this day & age, that the girls would have screamin fits & the boys aren't much better. :) Good idea Larry hopefully it wouldn't melt. Hence, foil faced.
