Hello , I am new to this forum. I am planning on buying a Hitzer 82 furnace, but have some questions about installation . The blower motor is 980 cfm. Does anybody know the minimal size of ductwork needed for this motor to work correctly ? I don't have a lot of rooms to heat and my cellar is small. My concern is that the motor may be too big for the amount of air I need to move. I would think that this would hamper the stove's performance. Is there a minimal size that the plenum needs to be as well ? How small can I go with it ? Can I connect a rheostat to the motor to slow it down without burning up the motor ? How many turns {90's} can I have in the black exhaust pipe until I connect it to the thimble ? This looks like a great furnace as well as good reviews by users. I can only hope that it will work for my setup before buying it.

Would advise to leave that motor just as the factory has it. That 82 has a very large surface area plus it is jacketed and needs to get rid of enough heat to not warp stove body and it is a furnace.

It is that size for a reason and you will only create problems messing with it.

BTW: What is the BF designation mean? Hitzer FABF

the Hitzer 82 fabf means furnace with blower and filter box.
That is my concern, making sure that my duct work is not too small for the motor. I am wondering how minimal can I go. I've looked at those charts online for sizing air ducts but I can not make heads or tales of what it means.

Are you reading the manual? ;)

Manual says 12" round.
So whatever square or rectangle duct that equals the same or larger Sq. inches of cross section as the 12" round.

My 82FA cane with 12" Diameter outlet. That's abt 113 sq. inches. Probable the same fan as yours. I had a furnace guy tie in to my existing duct this year. I ran for two years with just and elbow and a couple feet of 12" round. He dropped a 14" square over top of the hitzer outlet and transitioned to a 8" x 22" rect duct. Which is 176 square inches. My 82 is in the basement and the airflow upstairs is pretty quiet when he fan kicks on. Smaller duct means higher air velocity and more noise. I should say the minimum is the outlet size, 113 sq inches.

You can read or download the manual online, ya don't need to buy a furnace to get to read the manual. :)

My intent was to run a true parallel system. Just isn't working. Also not happy with burning wood. House is always smokey when I burn wood and you pretty much have to stay home to feed it.

These stoves are not good wood burners.
