Look at VigllPeaburner's signature on the bottom of his posts, you will see his videos. As stated these stoves are out there for hundreds instead of thousands. The last political climate ensured VC of their social views, bad for them and good for us! I work with a guy that has had a VC wood burner for 20 yrs, he told me he has replaced parts for his tree burner to the tune of 3X the cost of his stove when new. This is one of the many reasons the VC 2310 was discontinued. I would guess my stove is 15 yrs old, I got it 6-7 yrs ago and I have only replaced fire bricks, rope gasket, and a new thermostat...$80.00 - $100.00.

I was able to get mine for some boiler parts I had that the original owner needed. He paid $1700 for it new 12 years ago. I had a viewer comment on the first video that I need to ditch this one, I need to get a Chubby. My inner smart speck wanted to say that I'm too young for those problems...but I just told him about the 21 hours between my last tending and my house staying above 80*F on a day that was in single digits with a good wind. This VC stove will be here for a long time.

Oh I know lol. You'll get all kinds of comments from people that "think" they know better. The chubbys do get high regard but I don't think they can out run that Vigilant.

...and throw Hitzer, old Harman stoves and many others in the ring...rock, paper, scissors!

24 hours in between tending this time. House at 80 the whole time. Not bad for mid winter on the Canadian border.

I think back on the time I put into burning wood in the first gen VC Defiant. When I moved I thought about taking it with me. The logistics and effort of burning wood in this house quickly changed my mind. I've never regretted making the the switch.

I took the advice and switched to pea coal. $5.39 a bag for Reading Pea Coal at one of my local suppliers. I'm quite surprised at how many sources I'm finding in my area, I've found 4 so far and 3 of them are within a 30 minute drive.

Hi TTC, my Vig is now in my basement and it will go 24 hrs on pea size if I keep the temp down 450 - 500, the only down side is usually 1 1/2 to 2 pans of ash to deal with. I like having my unfinished basement around 60 - 65 degees in winter.TheTradesmanChannel wrote: ↑Thu. Feb. 15, 2018 11:41 amSeems to go longer in this stove, we'll see after a few days how it is.

Mike, the extra ash is from your coal's ash content not the size difference between pea and nut.
I just went 28 hours on one load. I had to leave overnight yesterday so I shook down and added 2 full hods of pea at around 3 pm. Temps were mild 30-40s and 9" of snow over night. At 7 pm tonight it looked like the below picture after 28 hours. Griddle temp 400*, exit collar 230*, pipe skin temp at 6' was 130. Pan was 2/3 full from Saturday afternoon so I shook down and knifed the fettle to fill the pan and confirm a nice glow through the bottom of the grates. Firebox took a 3 gallon pail to fill (~24 lbs). There was a lot of coal left.
