Bob I have the Hitzer 3095 Hopper fed since 1999 .The hopper is fine .Try mixing nut with your pea or use all nut .I find if burning pea an then do my shaking The Pea Will Flood the fire an cover the fire .Just a thought .

Well day 3 of the 503 with hopper in operation. If this doesn’t burn the house down or the fire die it’s gojng to be amazing. This has taken reloads my the stove from a 20 minute process to like a 3 minute process and I’m not sitting around waiting for the stove to blow up from cold coal! Lol.

Im a tad concerned cause my coal is like 6” deeper than i used to keep It. But i dig down in the hopper last night and it’s not burning up in there. So i guess it’s right.

It's a HITZER thing--the less ya mess with it the better they work! .>)

Just what I found with the hopper. But be aware that you CAN potentially still have an explosion if the shakedown drops too much coal on the fire. I always baby it along until I have visible flames. But you're right, the babying period is a few minutes rather than 20.

Don't be concerned. The hopper is designed to fill the firebox to the right depth. And even without a hopper, you should have been filling that extra six inches with coal.
