Well day 3 of the 503 with hopper in operation. If this doesn’t burn the house down or the fire die it’s gojng to be amazing. This has taken reloads my the stove from a 20 minute process to like a 3 minute process and I’m not sitting around waiting for the stove to blow up from cold coal! Lol.
Im a tad concerned cause my coal is like 6” deeper than i used to keep It. But i dig down in the hopper last night and it’s not burning up in there. So i guess it’s right.
Here’s a pic of I.T in action...

Just what I found with the hopper. But be aware that you CAN potentially still have an explosion if the shakedown drops too much coal on the fire. I always baby it along until I have visible flames. But you're right, the babying period is a few minutes rather than 20.CRAZYBOBDS wrote: ↑Tue. Don't be concerned. The hopper is designed to fill the firebox to the right depth. And even without a hopper, you should have been filling that extra six inches with coal.CRAZYBOBDS wrote: ↑Tue.
