I relocated my Vigilant ll 2310 to my basement/ soon to be "men only" per my 10 yr old. ...well the Vigilant has many internal parts that can and should be removed when moving to another floor. My guess would be about 150 lbs. worth of parts and still the carcass weighs approx. 200+ lbs.
It's a perfect time for a good cleaning and cementing. I had the pleasure of breaking the bi-metal control lever at it's entrance to the stove body. A new threaded hole was needed for the new control lever and cover plate as well...oh joy!

The stove is often described as a modern day base burner I will correct this and say it's a side/rear burner. It has a damper approx. 2 feet long across the top of the stove in front of the flue pipe:
IMG_20171221_114018057.jpg
.JPG | 385.6KB | IMG_20171221_114018057.jpg
When the damper is closed (indirect draft) and blocks the top rear flue pipe the exhaust has no choice but to travel to a secondary exit on top of both sides of the interior. Then down to the bottom of both sides to a zig zag pattern cast in the rear. The exhaust slowly climbs up 4 stories of ramps giving off heat the entire way.

...more to come :D

Hi, in fact the Vigilant ll is a very heavy stove. Removing some parts can help but it still quite heavy to move, well that is what my wife said when she moved it in the living room

Yup...a good stip down and rebuild should prove it's worth in heat and efficiency. I'll really enjoy the flat screen and a little 'fridge more. ;)

Thanks for sharing this! I’m having trouble identifying the view in photo 5 in your first post. It’s the photo after the two side panel photos. Which corner is that? Thanks!

That is looking down though the cook top  load door and looking at the right rear corner before cleaning.
The seventh picture down (last one in that post) is the left corner after wire brushing.

These pictures are of the 2 side "flues" that the gases head to when the damper is closed.

A few yrs ago I bought some full size bricks from:
https://www.sheffield-pottery.com/Kiln-Building-R ... s-s/24.htm
and I am finally getting around to fitting them in the stove. I will no longer need the little triangle bricks that sit at the bottom of the side panels.

I like it. Very neat and an ash catcher eliminated.

The higher fire bricks idea is a very good one, much more efficient than the original ones and help to keep the ash away.

Thanks guys, the bricks were very reasonably priced...of course the shipping cost more than the bricks. I was never a fan of the little triangle bricks.

The stove damper and the damper control rod that protrudes through the side of the stove are actually 2 separate pieces welded (brazed) together. Keep this in mind if ever a damper fail is hard to diagnose.
