I cemented any locations that debris could hide, effect draft, and difficult to clean while running. I'm getting more mileage from the old fire bricks, Tractor Supply is a quarter mile from my house so no worries.

Excellent idea on the firebrick MA. Please report back with the results. I happen to have a few of those thick firebricks and a lightly used masonry blade laying around.

The first shake down went well as it should starting with a clean stove. I will post my results as the days pass. Notching the bricks along the end that points to the rear is fairly obvious because of the contour that you can easily see. Please make sure you keep fitting the fettle and the coal grate bar and notch the front so they clear. I cemented mine before fitting  but a cold chisel made quick work. I would have rather done it with my angle grinder for a more "pleasant" looking edge  ...the angle grinder made life easy!

Ok second shake down and burned 40ish pounds of coal...those new side bricks are worth every ounce of the shipping cost as the ash fell straight down. I knifed the far right and left grate with 2 little passes and all the ash fell. Hopefully no more poking and prodding from above though the coal bars behind the glass. also no partially burnt coal sitting on the ledges, just powder! Yeah one for us!

I shut the stove down about a week ago for a cleaning. I also used MA's firebrick mod and started it up about 30 minutes ago. I kind of look forward to the first cleaning.
Thank You MA.
