Where are all my chubby friends?
It finally got cold here on Cape Cod (been burning the occasional wood) and I let the Chubby rip on coal up to 500 F. Plan to burn the usual ton of coal this year. Lehigh.
I just spoke with Larry T and all is well in the Plymouth area. It must be that our stoves are so easy to use and never break so not much to talk about...
Merry Xmas,
Lobsterman

I just had my reconditioned chubby installed. I will use it this winter. It’s only been really cold a couple of days while I have been home. I waiting for day time temps to get below 50.

I confess to not lighting my Jr yet. I burned LP for the first time in a decade until it turned cold enough to light the Frankenstove, and now it hasnt turned super cold enough yet where I needed extra heat from my Jr, but its sure to happen. I only use mine in shoulder seasons and in super cold weather but my shoulder seasons might be colder than some of your winters

Ours has been lit and pumping out heat here in North Central Mass. Especially during the recent cold snap.

Well this season I've added a ash-catcher and new mica glass and she's been humming non-stop since Nov. 1 keeping us all warm and cozy. As she is our primary source of heat, we feed her only the best stove and nut coal mix. When it gets below 30*, we run her pretty hot and she doesn't complain a bit, she does eat a bit more. And Junior is doing a fine job heating our small cabin in VT on the weekends.

Love my Chubbies,

Merry Christmas,

Will

I started the season with wood on some nights to help take the evening chill out. I have been burning Lehigh nut for the past few days. It is nice coming downstairs in the morning and seeing that orange glow from the Chubby and better yet feeling the warmth. :D

I have an oil boiler as well. I usually run the stove when I'm home during the week or on the weekends. 12 hr tending times are pretty typical. My Wife is reluctant to tend it.

The Chubby heats the house pretty well, I very rarely open the damper more than halfway. I have an eco fan that blows heat off the stove itself and a large ceiling fan that pushes the heat around the house.

Morning Lobsterman....Here's one of Larry teaching a convert how to burn coal

Image

Spent the past week up in Aroostook County ME hugging the Chubby.. (that don't sound right) ... overnight temps were below 0 F a few nights. Had to keep 'r cranking at 550F to keep the house warm but w/out the Chubby I wouldn't be up there in December.

I got big plans for the new old Chubby.. a new fire pot with the center pin for the grate.... that's going in after this season. I might splurge on one of those fancy running boards as well.

I know the Cape can get pretty chilly this time of year. Stay warm.

Hit that rust with a wire brush and some xylene metal clleaner. The paste stove polish does a good job on cast iron.
