Hand Fed Coal Stove: Keystoker HFH 90

I just fired up my HFH 90, is the first hand fired stove I have had, have been running a stoker in the basement. After reading the posts on this forum for the past couple of years thought it would be fun to try a hand fired stove. We can enjoy this one in our living space.
So far everything thing is good, does anyone have any insight on adjusting the bimetallic temperature control, seems the settings from the factory are kind of low.
Thanks

You indeed have a nice stove there. Trial and error will teach you as to what temperature the stove will settle in at for a given bimetalic thermostat setting. I'm not familiar with the numbering range on yours, but for my ComfortMax I was told to start it on 2 or 3 and adjust upward from there if/as needed.

My wife was very reluctant to put a stove where it could be seen, but when we went to look at this one she was much more agreeable.

They are indeed good lookers, and from my direct observation of one, they are very well made also. This would have been my first choice, but my wife wants to only burn wood in our living room so I settled on a ComfortMax 75.

It is built like a tank, finished well.
Grates are thick cast iron, very robust and work well. Operates well and tends easily. So far very happy.

I agree with all of this. The grates are better than the grates in my ComfortMax. The HFH 90 is indeed robustly built.

If I needed a new stove that would be my first choice. Looks great!
