Purchased a Legacy TLC2000. Will be burning mostly coal during the colder months but probably wood during the warmer months. Does anyone know if there is an insert for the stove that would be beneficial to use when I'm burning wood or do you think it should be fine as is?

Few things...

The wood will be free.
I liked the idea of a stove that can burn both coal/wood.
I know the stove is no longer certified to burn wood.

Thanks,

John

You may benefit from just laying a piece of tin over part or most of the grate. Wood ash doesnt build up too fast and you can just push the ash off if you want. That kinda creates some over fire air for wood around the tin. It will slow down the burn if nothing else.

Thats a big stove, you should have some room to play with different things and ideas inside of it. I saw one of these stoves when it was a Harman and liked it.

"Certified" smurtified .... blah !

Will it burn ? That's the question.

Of course, there's always the idiot out there that will see what will burn...evidenced by one guy's "will it burn" youtube channel

The TLC does fine with wood (of course to only start a good coal fire ;) ). Make sure to close the bottom draft and open the upper side drafts. There is also a screen available that you can place in the main door opening but they are difficult to find now that the stove is not EPA certified for wood burning.

I have the TLC 2000. I burn wood in spring and fall. Then switch to coal in consistently cold temps.. It does OK with wood. I just leave the ashes in the bottom covering the grates. You will not get 12 hours out of it even with oak or locust. But for shoulder season it is fine. If you find something let me know.......LOL
