pENNSLYTUCKY BLUESTONE FOR TOPPING HARDI BACKER BOARD..RUNS 1/2 TO 9/16 THICK...DEPENDING HOW IT FLAKES APART ON MUD LINES. So got to bed the stones on a loose sand base , wiggle into sand to fill mud line high/lows in each piece. Plus will put some 4"x4" steel pads under each foot of stove to help distribute weight of stove on a larger area.
also need to border stone/backer board with wood strips to confine loose sand bedding.- freetown fred

quick lay of stone..... guess its gonna be a tile mortar mix for laying, will be running 1/2 space between stones. No biggy..wet mortar, level, wiggle and jiggle. Then few days later fill space between stones.

still roughing in pieces, tomorrow night, wednesday i go to lowes get medium, texture thin set( oxymoron), not for small tiles, but for larger than 1foot stone lays. Plus a few bags of grout for grouting in stone a day or two later. Boards are a few left over 1x6" from wagon build believe its larch.
