MPD--that should do it--I only shut mine half way when the wind is seriously kickin ass here on the hill. Baro's been tried on this stove & all but I think one, yanked them out.

[quote="wilder11354"]hopper boot has to come out, to remove shaker grate cradle. Even then its a snug fit. when all cleaned up, should i put a bead of high temp fire silicone along inner shoulder edge of boot to hopper joint?<snip>/quote]
Looks like the cradle is slightly bowed. Replacement is appropriate.
Maintenance ? Only a few parts to fart with luckily.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the cradle out? Mine is also sagging in the middle. I initially thought I needed new grates but they don't look really bad. I took out the grates and the "hopper boot" (I think that's what it is) but can't seem to get the cradle out.

Bricks must come out first...
At least on my 503...
Lip on the top of the piece you want to remove...
Holds the bottom of the bricks in...
Once bricks are out you will have room to rotate...
And pull it out of the front door...

Am I doing something wrong? There is no way it will come straight out as it's two inches wider than the bottom door and I haven't found a way to turn it 90 degrees to come out sideways.

I called Hitzer and the gentleman said they drop the right side in first and work the left side in from there. He said some are harder going in than others.
Removing: I worked the left side out first with a pry bar while using a sledge hammer on the right side. I was eventually able to "turn the corner" sideways but not without a lot of force prying and hammering. Mine was bowed out in the middle and warped quite a bit so maybe that's why it was so hard to get out.

remove hopper...
The whole hopper comes out on the 503...
Bolt in the top center...
The diagonal of the door gives more room...
Never needed a hammer nor pry-bar...
Just a bit of geometry...
LOL...
